COMMON QUESTIONS:

WHAT IS A IMMIGRATION PSYCHOLOGICAL EVALUATION?

A psychological evaluation for immigration court is used to document any mental health conditions or diagnosis. It also describes from a psycho-social perspective, how potential deportation can impact a client and their family.

WHAT IS THE PROCESS?

  • Send us a message or call/text 201-523-4048 so that we can answer any questions you may have. You will then be offered the earliest available appointment.

  • You will be asked to sign consent forms and complete a questionnaire before your evaluation. We can send them by mail or e-mail.

  • You will send your consents and questionnaire back to the clinician before your first appointment as we like to review all information prior to the initial session.

  • Depending on how quickly you need the evaluation, we like to break sessions up into 2-4 appointments to ensure we get all the information needed. (If you are unable to meet more than once, we will do our best to work with you in the time frame you have available).

  • Once all information is gathered, the clinician will begin working on the report. This can take about 2 weeks.

  • A report will then be mailed directly to your attorney about 2 weeks after your evaluation. You may request that a copy of the report be sent to you as well.

WHERE DOES THE EVALUATION TAKE PLACE?:

  • In-person at our office in Hawthorne, NJ.

  • Virtually/Online using Telehealth, a HIPPAA compliant platform.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT DURING THE EVALUATION?

  • You will meet with a licensed mental health professional. We will talk about your history (where you come from, how and why you came to this country, and what your life is like now) as well as the state of your mental and emotional health as it relates to the reason for your immigration petition.

  • The evaluation itself can last about 4 hours which can be broken into several meeting times, (about 2-4 ).

WHAT SHOULD I BRING?

  • If possible, bring a copy of your legal declaration (you can request this from your attorney)

  • Have some basic dates on hand, such as: the year you immigrated to the US and any other significant dates related to the reason for your immigration petition. If you have a copy of a police report, it can be helpful as well.

  • A valid photo ID (driver’s license, passport, etc.)

  • The fee for the evaluation

  • Honesty and Openness about your true feelings and experiences

WHAT IS THE COST?

The cost of this process is $850. This fee includes the evaluation (which can take 2-4 hours), and the written report (which can take between 5-10 hours). A $250.00 non-refundable deposit must be made when booking the evaluation.

Payment plans are available and can be discussed during your initial phone call. If your report must be completed in less than 2 weeks, there is an additional $250 rush fee.

HOW CAN I PAY?

Cash and Credit/debit cards are accepted: ( VISA, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover)

WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?:

For immigration evaluations, there is a 48-hour cancellation policy.

If you cancel or reschedule with less than 48-hours notice or do not attend your scheduled appointment, we are unable to refund you the $250.00 deposit.
